Report: Tigers End Home Campaign With Defeat

The Tigers ended their home campaign with a defeat as Cardiff City ran out 2-0 winners at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Sean Morrison scored twice to put the Bluebirds back in the driving seat for automatic promotion going into the final weekend of the season, but for Nigel Adkins’ side there was disappointment at a second successive home defeat.

Adkins made three changes to his side as David Meyler, Will Keane and Kamil Grosicki came in with Seb Larsson, Jarrod Bowen and Jackson Irvine making way.

Stephen Kingsley picked up an early yellow for a rugby tackle on Nathaniel Mendez-Laing out wide before an injury forced Cardiff into a change as Aron Gunnarsson was replaced by Marko Grujic.

Fraizer Campbell saw an 11th-minute chance kept out as the Tigers created the first opening of the afternoon after good work from Kingsley out wide but there would be an early injury blow for the home side, too, as Angus MacDonald left with his arm in a makeshift sling and replaced by Ondrej Mazuch.

Kamil Grosicki sent a free kick over the bar from 25 yards with Grujic dragging an effort wide at the other end.

Grujic was then booked for a late challenge on Meyler before Cardiff took the lead from a 32nd-minute corner. Delivered to the far post, captain Morrison was there to head in from close range.

Henriksen was booked before the break after attempting to bring down Kenneth Zohore while eight minutes of added time saw McGregor deny Junior Hoilett a Cardiff second.

McGregor made another save early in the second half to keep out Morrison’s header with Meyler firing wide at the other end.

Grosicki saw an effort blocked wide and Michael Dawson headed over from a corner as the Tigers looked for a leveller, with Bowen replacing Keane on 65 minutes.

Campbell’s appeals for a penalty were turned down when he appeared to be tripped inside the box with Meyler then booked for an off-the-ball shove on Mendez-Laing.

Jon Toral replaced the injured Grosicki with a little over 15 minutes left in a final home change, but it was Cardiff who wrapped the game up ten minutes from time as Morrison rounded off a quick counter-attack.
