The Dutch centre back became the Tigers’ fourth signing of the summer when arriving from PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday and he is looking forward to his first taste of English football.
“Hull City have given me the opportunity to come and play in England and when I found out about it, I didn’t have to think about it. I wanted to come over straight away,” said de Wijs.
“I have seen some Championship matches and they have been physical, tough games but I think that suits me well and I’m looking forward to that.
“I am comfortable with the ball also, that is the core for Dutch football. There are many games to play in the Championship so it is important to be ready mentally and physically.
“I’m really happy to have made this move and I’m really looking forward to playing for Hull City.”
de Wijs put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract in Portugal where the Tigers’ first team squad are currently being put through their paces as part of a pre-season training camp, with the 23-year-old pleased to be in and around his new team-mates straightaway.
“It’s really important to spend time together as a team and it is important to talk with everybody as well,” de Wijs continued.
“When you talk off the pitch, it makes it better on the field as well and so this is an important few days coming up.”
