Jon Beale has described seeing his young side lift the East Riding County FA Senior Cup Final trophy as a "great way to finish the season".
The Tigers secured a first success in the competition in 14 years with a 2-1 victory over Northern Counties East Premier League side Bridlington Town on Tuesday night thanks to first-half goals from Max Sheaf and Keane Lewis-Potter.
Reflecting on the win, Academy Manager Beale said: “It’s always nice to pick up silverware – no matter what the competition.
“It’s the first time in 14 years that we’ve lifted the trophy, which shows the standard of the competition.
“Full credit to the lads because we had a young team with only two Under-23 players in the side, with the rest of the squad made up of Under-18s.
“It was a good experience for them all though. It was a pressure situation because of what was at stake and the game provided them all with a different test for them all because they were playing against men – rather than players their own age – which they dealt with very well.
“Credit must also go to Bridlington because they made it difficult for us, especially at the end after going down to ten men but I was pleased with the way the lads dug in and saw the game out. We stuck to our guns and dealt with the ugly side of the game as well.
“Obviously Will (Mannion) has made a couple of saves but that’s his job and that’s what he’s there to do. I was really pleased with how everyone showed that bit of resilience and desire to see the game out and lift the trophy.
“It topped off what has been a really good week for the Academy. We had our Under-13s and Under-15s produce some fantastic performances to finish as runners-up at the Nørhalne Cup in Denmark, whilst the Under-9s enjoyed success by winning a Premier League Premier Fives tournament in Newcastle on Sunday.
“On top of that, we’ve had a number of our lads out with the first-team in Kenya which has been a fantastic experience for them all. It’s been great all-round.
“It’s a great way to finish the season and we’re all really looking forward to next campaign now.”
