Jon Beale has challenged his Under-23s side to end their Professional Development League campaign on a positive note when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this afternoon (KO 2pm
Going into the clash on a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions, the Tigers can put themselves in pole position to secure a third-place finish in the Northern table with a victory in South London today and Beale is eager to see his young charges sign off with a win.
“It’s five successive wins in all competitions now and we want to end our season on a high by making it six against Crystal Palace this afternoon,” he said.
“I’ve been pleased with recent results and performances, but it’s just a little bit disappointing that this run of form has come when the games are running out.
“It would’ve been nice if we had two or three more games to come or if we’d have started this run a little earlier. If that was the case, we might be pushing to be involved in a second successive play-off campaign.
“But, as I say, I’m pleased with how we’ve finished the season. The vast majority of the lads that have been playing in the games of late are the ones that will be with us next season and we’re getting them playing the way we want them to play with regards to next season.
“We need one more effort now against Palace. They’ve secured the Southern title already with three games still to play, so we know we’re going to be in for a tough, tough test but it’s one that we’re relishing.
“Going to Selhurst Park, it’ll be a nice big pitch which will suit us and the way we like to play, and hopefully we can produce the right sort of performance to see us end the season on a high.”
