Adkins Hails In-Form Wilson

Nigel Adkins had words of praise for Harry Wilson following yet another impressive display from the Welshman in Saturday's ten-goal thriller at Bristol City - and says talks have been held with his parent club Liverpool in regards to bringing the talented youngster back to the KCOM Stadium next season.

Despite arriving from Anfield on deadline day with nothing but an extensive record of scoring in youth football under his belt, Wilson has shone in his first taste of Championship football.

The 21-year-old continued his recent superb form when taking his goal tally to seven for the season with a brace at Ashton Gate at the weekend, which means he has now been directly involved in ten goals in 11 league appearances for the Tigers and Adkins harbours hopes of seeing Wilson in black and amber once again next season.

“We’ve had conversations with Liverpool with regards to Harry,” he said.

“Obviously he’s scoring goals, creating goals and developing really well with us but he’ll go back to Liverpool and do pre-season with them.

“That’s only to be expected because a lot of their players will be involved at the World Cup throughout the summer.

“Liverpool will have pre-season commitments and I’m sure Harry will be involved in those, but they know that we want him back here next season.

“For his own development, Harry needs to be playing football next season. We’d like to think we have an opportunity but we’ll have to be patient and wait and see.”

Reflecting more on Wilson’s goals at the weekend, Adkins added: “His first goal came about after some really good, intelligent football that we played as a team. There was a real purpose in the build-up to put him in a position to score and then obviously his talent comes to the forefront with the finish.

“And the free-kick was another wonderful strike as well. Full credit to him for that because it was a stunning, stunning hit.

“He’s an exceptional talent. We play football in a way that can get him involved and he’s thriving on that.

“But it’s not just about his contribution going forward. Harry knows how hard he has to work for the team and that’s important.

“We’re delighted with what he’s doing for us. It’s great that we have given him a platform and an opportunity which he’s clearly enjoying. It’s great to see.”
